Question 1

How often should I change my HVAC filter?

Accepted Answer

A one-inch filter every month or two; a thicker media filter every six months to a year. A clogged filter is the single most common cause of the service calls we run.

Question 2

When should I schedule an HVAC checkup?

Accepted Answer

Cooling in the spring, heating in the fall — before you need them. Once it is 100 degrees, everybody calls the same week.

Question 3

Should I repair or replace my HVAC system?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the age of the system, the cost of the repair, and whether it is the first big failure or the third. Eric gives you the honest math and lets you decide.

Question 4

Is Eric's Refrigeration licensed?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Oklahoma requires HVAC contractors to hold a state mechanical license and carry bonding and insurance. Eric's Refrigeration is licensed, bonded and insured.

Question 5

What do the refrigerant changes from R-22 to R-410A to R-454B mean for me?

Accepted Answer

R-22 has been phased out of production, so repairs on R-22 systems are expensive because the refrigerant is scarce. R-410A replaced it in most homes and is still serviceable, though it is now being phased down in new equipment. R-454B is what new systems are built around now. None of this forces you to replace a working system, but if you are on R-22 and facing a large repair, replacement usually makes better financial sense than it used to.
